Pacifiers Without Plastic and No BPA

Its old news now that a lot of the plastic things on the market, especially baby things, have the chemical BPA in them.  BPA has been linked to causing all sorts of ugly stuff - cancer, diabetes and behavioral changes like hyperactivity.  One of the things I’ve been fretting about is my son’s pacifiers.  I would love to wean him off of them entirely but until that time, we’ve switched to the Goldi rubber pacifiers.  They’re 100% rubber, latex-free and they’re made in the EU so I have a higher level of confidence that they are actually what they say they are.  No chemical softeners, parabens, PVC, or phthalates and no BPA.

And they’re cute, which is always important!

Healthy Eating Pyramid - Harvard’s Take

A friend sent me this link to the Harvard University Healthy Eating Pyramid and its a nice way to think about how to feed yourself and your kids.  It basically gets to what Michael Pollan (author of the Omnivores Dilemma) summarizes as the basic way to approach food - “Eat food. Not too much. Mostly plants.”

Focus on real food, not processed stuff from factories and make as much of it plant-based as possible.  Its not as easy as it sounds, but its something we’re trying actively to implement in our day to day lives.

Pajama Time! by Sandra Boynton

If you have kids, you should have Sandra Boynton’s books.  They are fun to read, zippy and they all turn into songs as you’re reading them.  My kids have loved Pajama Time since they were about 6 months old, probably in part because both my husband and I like to read them.  The only drawback to this book is that if you really are trying to get them to go to bed, you have to moderate the exuberance with which you sing the song :)
