Animal,Vegetable, Miracle by Barbara Kingsolver

Moving my kids from breastmilk to solid foods really has made me think a lot about where our food comes from. Animal, Vegetable Miracle by Barbara Kingsolver is a very good book for anyone interested in food and where it comes from. My friend Alicia Menendez recommended it to me -thanks Alicia!

The author and her family move from suburban Tucson Arizona to their farm in Southwest Virginia, where they live for one year eating only things they grow themselves or can buy locally.  The book is about that year, how it goes and what they learn.  Its engaging and interesting and I’m going to try to make my own cheese now (we’ll see how that goes).  The author’s website is www.animalvegetablemiracle.com.

Its along the same lines as Michael Pollan’s The Omnivores Dilemma, another great read.
