Making things makes me happy and if I can find time in a day to sew, knit, embroider, cook or whatever, it will be a better day.  That being said, crafting with kids can be, um, challenging.  Sure, Martha can whip up a beautiful set of napkins and embroider guests’ initials on them in mere minutes, but can she do it with 33 pounds of kids swinging on her arm the entire time?  How about a marker and jam smeared hand that wants to ‘help’ by unwinding the bobbins?  I call it Extreme Crafting.  The more delicate the craft, the more impressive the outcome when done with children attached!

The flip side is there are no people more fun to make things for than my kids.  It made my month to have my 2 year old ask me to knit him a blue hat.  We made an immediate trip to the yarn store of course, he picked the yarn and I whipped* this one up.  Then Zoe needed a white one, so of course, I obliged.  I made up the pattern as I went, very simple, though math isn’t my favorite.  Nothing like seeing my kids in something I made!

*PS When I say “whipped up”, that means I knitted approximately one row per day for two weeks in between everything else kid, work, and life related. :)

No kidding! I wonder what it’s like to cook with TWO arms?

What a great role model you are for your children !
The memory of you making the time to craft them something unique and from the heart is forever.

These are adorable hats! I agree: It makes my day seeing the boys wearing my handmade knits, especially when they ask for them.
