We got back from a wonderful whirlwind four day Thanksgiving holiday and the kids were understandably a little wound-up and crazy. Amazing food, lots of family, lots of riding in the car and lost routine all add up. And did I mention they were wound up? Anyway, after 4 time-outs before 9am on Monday, we decided to make cookies. Turned out to be a great distractor because in addition to actually making the cookies and selecting the shapes, we also had to wash the cookie cutters. Took a good 45 minutes of them in front of the sink. 45 minutes of occupied children!

The cookies were the Rich Rolled Sugar Cookies from the Joy of Cooking, but I have to say, they aren’t my favorite. So to jazz them up after the kids got tired of cutting them out, I did the rest of the dough in the shape of our dog Kirby and then used them to sandwich a chocolate-hazelnut spread. Kirby Cookies! Everything is better with chocolate. Even Kirby.

Aww, wish we could’ve been there at Thanksgiving. The kirby cookies look great though -everything is better with nutella!
Oh my gosh! Why have I never thought of having my kids wash dishes before! Ingenious…
it was great to see you all and meet the newest addition! Wish I lived closer to help sample those yummy cookies!
Loved this post!
