Making Them Work For Their Keep

We had a lovely weekend, filled with opportunities for the kids to work:

Picking apples and then eating the subsequent apple sauce….

Wheeling the garden cart around the field…..

Digging a hole to China, or at least to sit in… and thanking their daddy for filling the hole up with water to get a proper mud puddle going.

ahhhhhh…..playing in a mud puddle! so many kids don’t get to splash making mud pies while their folks facilitate and photograph the fun.
the eagerness of the kiddos picking the apples….and the pure happiness of being covered with mud…….the perfect moment! how wonderful for them to discover at such an early age that life is full of natural perfect moments.

So cute! Is the hole just for making mud puddles or is there some additional purpose too?

Country kid life at its best!

  5. Mary: yes, the hole was originally intended as a stairway to China, but then we figured out that making stairs was too hard, that China was too far, and there are apparently rocks about three feet down. Then, T & Z decided that it should be a “water future” and asked for the hose. I, of course, obliged :-P
