Moms-on-the-Hill (MOTH)

MOTH is a listserv started in 2000 for parents living on Capitol Hill.  If you’re a parent and you live on Capitol Hill in Washington, DC then you’re eligible to part of the Moms-on-the-Hill listserv.  The only way to join is to be invited by another parent on the Hill, who then sends your email address to the moderators to be added.

Sounds a little funny at first, but it really is a great listserv and its a huge benefit that it requires an invite from someone else already affiliated with it.  The list is surprisingly polite, very on-topic and there are not a ton of people trying to sell something on it.  Besides the great parenting advice, its an invaluable resource for finding other parents and kids in similar situations and its great for finding recommendations for contractors and other services in the city.

So, if you want to be a member, just head to Lincoln or Stanton Park, Eastern Market or your block and find someone with a stroller.  Chances are, they’re a part of MOTH and they can get you hooked up.
