So it is supposed to start snowing tonight and snow until Sunday, leaving behind somewhere between 8 and 22 inches of snow. Wow! That’s a ton a snow for around here. I went to college in upstate NY where it snows all the time, but its different up there because everyone’s prepared for it. City has the right equipment, people have boots and coats, cars have chains and 4 wheel drive – it snows but life goes on. Not so here.
Hopefully, we’re ready for it here at our house. We haven’t been here long enough to know if the power goes out easily and if it does, that means we’re out of heat and the well pump won’t work. So it’ll be exciting! :) We have plenty of water in reserve and David brought in more than enough firewood. I spent the day panic baking (which has to be better than panic shopping right?) so we have a loaf of egg bread, 5 dozen oatmeal chocolate chip cookies, and two casseroles that we can eat cold if need be. And if it gets really bad, we’ll climb in our 4 wheel drive car and go to my mom’s house because she has a generator.
Its funny to have to think about not having electricity. It really brings home how much we rely on it every day and makes me want to figure out better ways to set up our house and our life going forward. Of course, the thing I’m really perseverating on is if the power is out long enough that we run out of clean cloth diapers. On that topic, Scarlett O’Hara had it right – “I’ll think about that tomorrow”.
Here’s hoping you are safe and warm wherever you are, and if you are in this snow, here’s hoping it’s a source of delight, wonder and an excellent reason to drink hot chocolate!
First snowfall
We just built a giant fire here — not bad for city folk!
Also, thankfully we still have power, so we can use the internet to look up “perseverating” — learn something new every day!
