This week has been a comical one in the kitchen. On Monday, I made a sweet potato-onion-parsnip galette with a spare pie crust I had in the freezer. Everything was going great until I tried to add some more sweet potatoes to the pan 10 minutes into the baking and managed to drop the entire thing onto the door of the oven, smoking up the whole place. We scooped it back on the pan, and while it did taste good, it was a total mess of sweet potatoes and pie crust bits.
On Tuesday, we had guests over for dinner and I made Chocolate-Caramel Cookie Bars for dessert. Usually, a Martha Stewart recipe is winner for me, but the caramel never set up and the chocolate didn’t quite melt so it was more like chocolate caramel soup. Now, don’t get me wrong, add enough butter and sugar and chocolate to something and it’ll taste great no matter how it looks. We ate it but it wasn’t anything I’d take a picture of. :)
Today, I made chocolate chip cookies and despite the gremlins earlier this week, they turned out great (see above note about butter, sugar and chocolate) but then I stuck them in a Ziploc bag. And now they taste like a Ziploc bag. Argh! I know I hate plastic, why do I still buy it sometimes? I think this might have finally cured me of the impulse.
So instead of a picture of my culinary triumphs, I’ll try to distract you with a picture of our cute dog:

Ooh, that sweet potato galette sounds delicious, even in pieces!
sounds better than anything I’ve made in the kitchen lately…and I was a little distracted by the picture! :)
