A former boss of mine taught me one of the most important lessons I’ve learned so far – stop worrying about what you don’t have or what the perfect way is and just start where you are.  I have found it to be so true in every situation I’ve applied it to so far, especially because I have the tendency to overthink and overplan things.  The typical result of overthinking for me is that nothing ever happens.

Anyway, I’ve been fretting about how to prepare for our vegetable patch the “right” way.  Sheet mulch?  Made up of what?  Where do we buy it, how much do we need, what’s the right order, etc, etc.  Today, David and I just went out and started.  Put Katie in the Ergo carrier, laid out a 30×70 patch, spread the leaves we’ve been collecting, and topped it with hay compost we got from the dairy farm down the road and then soaked the whole thing with water.  We covered about 20% of the patch with what we had and we’ll just plug away at the rest.  Mostly, we just feel good for getting it started.

2010 is looking good already!
