What’s a ButterPie?

“ButterPie” is what our daughter Zoe (2 years old) calls a butterfly. Its happy and makes us smile, like this website.

About ButterPies

Our goal is to create a place that stores the experience and advice that parents have gained while raising their own children. There are a ton of great sites on the web that offer advice on raising children from experts, which is very useful but we want more. We want a place where we can search easily for what real parents are doing to address problems like the first day of school, dealing with bullies, picking a college, starting solid foods, or potty training.

I am part of a great mom’s network and listserv on Capitol Hill in Washington, DC called Moms-On-The-Hill (MOTH) - it helped inspire this site. Its a great resource and invaluable - I love reading what folks have to say, even when it doesn’t directly apply to my kids (yet). This site came out of a desire to do several things:

  1. Make the MOTH-like resource, i.e. direct parent-to-parent advice, available to a much bigger group.
  2. Make a site that captured that advice and presented it in an easy to search and easy to read format.
  3. Make it simple to give advice, answer questions or post ideas on kid-raising issues.

A note on ‘parent-to-parent’: My kids are lucky to have a lot of people who love them - grandparents, aunts, uncles, a nanny, friends - and I think that advice from all those types of people can be helpful too. The focus is on raising kids, so I’m hoping we’ll get advice from a wide variety of people, not just the moms and dads out there.
