MOTH is a listserv started in 2000 for parents living on Capitol Hill.  If you’re a parent and you live on Capitol Hill in Washington, DC then you’re eligible to part of the Moms-on-the-Hill listserv.  The only way to join is to be invited by another parent on the Hill, who then sends your email address to the moderators to be added.

Sounds a little funny at first, but it really is a great listserv and its a huge benefit that it requires an invite from someone else already affiliated with it.  The list is surprisingly polite, very on-topic and there are not a ton of people trying to sell something on it.  Besides the great parenting advice, its an invaluable resource for finding other parents and kids in similar situations and its great for finding recommendations for contractors and other services in the city.

So, if you want to be a member, just head to Lincoln or Stanton Park, Eastern Market or your block and find someone with a stroller.  Chances are, they’re a part of MOTH and they can get you hooked up.

    Hi Moms-on- the Hill,

We really admire this website and love it connects people living in the great community. We are trying to start a Capitol Hill neighborhood blog that will hopefully provide info and connect both Moms and non-Moms living in the neighborhood. If you have any suggestions for content please email us at lowercasehill@gmail.com. We would really appreciate it! Also check out our blog “lowercasehill” if you get a chance. Thanks and go MOTHS!

    Hi,
My partner and I are looking to buy on the hill within the next year or so. Having lived on the hill for many years myself in my early 20’s….I am drawn back to the hill as a place to raise our children. I would love to join the MOTH listserve. I would also love to know if there are public/charter or private schools located on the hill worth looking into?

    Thank you for your response!

Yes, Two Rivers Public Charter School is great, but has a long waiting list via lottery. Cheers! Jindra

What a wonderful idea!! Look forward to bumping into moms on the hill and asking to join. It’s our first, so we have so much to learn from the experts in the park! :)

    Hi,

My husband and I are adopting an infant in the next two weeks and would like to join Mothers on the Hill. We’ve had two different friends who are members of MOTH submit our names/info but have not heard anything back. Can you please let us know what the situation is.

    Thanks very much.

I used to be a member of MOTH but gave it up because my email box was getting overloaded. I’d like to join again but not sure how to reconstitute my membership again. Any help on that would be greatly appreciated

To the Moms on the Hill,

I live on the Hill but am not a mother … but I do love kids. I recently finished graduate school and am a working professional in the District … and am looking for some occasional babysitting – something once a week on a weeknight would be perfect for my schedule. I’ve heard the Moms on the Hill are often seeking babysitters, so I thought I’d put this out there and see if anyone is interested. I’m a former teacher and returned Peace Corps volunteer, and work regular hours Monday through Friday… very professional, mature, responsible. I can give you references as well!

    Hello,
I live on Capitol Hill and have a 10 months old daughter. I went to a MOTH picnis some months ago and wrote down my name and email, and I was suppose to get an invitation to join the group. I dont know what happened, but I never receive it. I would love to join the group or somehow meet other moms on the hill. Any ideas?
    Thanks!

I work on the Hill, and live in Maryland, but I’m looking for a private school (not daycare) for my 3year old on Capitol Hill. I’ve heard of Capitol Hill Day School, but they start at age 4. I was hoping to pose my question to the MOTH moms, but sounds like I won’t be able to. Does anyone have any suggestions? Thanks.

    Hi Everyone,

I am missing my sweet Cocoa (6lb yorkshire terrier). She went missing on Monday at 6th and North Carolina. I suspect someone has picked her up, but should you see a small yorkie roaming the streets or hear of someone having found a dog please call me at 757.609.1151. Her pictures are on most corners!

    Thank you so much!

    Hello Moms on the Hill,
I am a Primary Montessori teacher who is seeking a location on Capitol Hill to start my own Christian Montessori Center (ages 3-5). Does anyone know of any churches/buildings open to having a center? Do you think there is a need for this program on Capitol Hill? I look forward getting feedback.
I would also like to join the group because my husband and I would like to have children soon.
